We are Muzika del Sur,the country's first and only magazine show that delves into Mindanao's music scene. Since our first airing in 2006 we have featured dozens of Mindanao artists and their music from the localities of Davao, Tagum, General Santos, Cotabato, Cagayan de Oro, and Iligan. From magazine segments, travelogues, behind-the-scenes, interviews, taped performances and music videos we have shown the rich diversity of Mindanao music. And through this show we want to prove that our music can overpower the growls and booms of violence that has stereotyped our island.
From the indigenous mindanao music to local-flavored rock, hiphop and pop. We’ve got it all covered.
The show format is basically a music magazine show; the shows are hosted by young and energetic Mindanaoan VJs. The segments are groups into topics music culture, music lifestyle and music videos. In 2007, the show began producing Music Box, which are taped performances of local musical artists playing their original materials, the effort highlights the goal of MDS in promoting original music to a wider range of audience through television.
Starting off as blocktimers on Skycable Community Channel 28 in Davao, plus other community channels in Digos, Tagum, General Santos and Zamboanga. The show is currently shown and exclusively on SouthSpot SkyCable Davao channel 19 and SouthSpot SkyCable 21 in General Santos City.
Aside from producing TV episodes, the MDS is also engaged in organizing events aimed in promoting the show and local music. The Outloud concert series had seen the MDS team flirting from one nightspot or City to another bringing with them talented bands and groups.
In the same year, MDS began conceptualizing and putting into reality the Muzika del Sur Music Awards, to honor and recognize Mindanaoan musical artists.
